Leadership Morgan County

“Do you know how Morgan County really works—and who is working to make it better?”

Leadership Morgan, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, gives the next generation of leaders a look behind the scenes and the relationships they need to help shape what is coming next.

It isn't just about teaching people to be better leaders. It's about teaching people to understand their own community well enough to become better leaders in it.

What participants actually do:

Rather than sitting in a classroom and listening to lectures, participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how Morgan County works—its businesses, government, schools, economic development, public safety, nonprofits and other community organizations.

And that is what makes it valuable for Morgan County.

A person may be excellent at running a business, teaching,

farming, working in healthcare or serving the public—

but Leadership Morgan helps them see how all those pieces fit together.

The program is intended to:

  • Develop emerging community leaders

  • Give participants a better understanding of Morgan County's opportunities and challenges

  • Introduce them to the people and organizations making decisions and creating change

  • Build relationships across business, government, education, nonprofits and community organizations

  • Encourage participants to become more actively involved in the community

  • Create a network of people who can work together on countywide issues

It also creates something Morgan County needs badly: relationships across the county.

Someone from a small business may sit beside someone from government, education,

healthcare or a nonprofit and discover that they are working on completely different pieces of the same problem.
